Seems inconceivable that Millers has been gone so long, used to gawp at the bikes when going into Wigan on the bus though I never had one. The Newtown/Saddle area has changed so much.

There was a pub called "The Saddle" at the junction of Ormskirk Rd/Warrington Rd, hope this helps.

The Saddle in had rings in the wall to hitch the horses. Next door was St.Edward's church

The stabbles next to the fire station, is the Saddle.
