£14.00 now around £3,000. I wonder how much an average weekly wage was then? Probably £14 was quite a sum too.

This was my great grandfather! My grandmother was Maggie Hodkinson who came out to Australia with her older sister Eliza Jane Barrett, Mary Hodkinson and possibly Alice and Minnie (Beatrice) Hodkinson. Maggie married Albert Hibbs.

Beatrice was my aunty. She did not go to Aus but lived in Bolton. I used to visit her as a child on the bus from Wigan. My mother was Arlene Alicia. There were 13 children in the family. Thos. Hodkinson married twice, the second wife being themother of Arlene. All other 12 had a different mum. Arlene was the baby. Born 1903 died 1980.
