Can't see a Name Plate?

Comment by: Dave Taylor on 19th September 2010 at 17:20

Me neither, however I can only copy what is on the rear of Brian's original work, I assume cleverer folk than I will be able to confirm or refute the loco name against it's number!

Just seen another photograph of the engine dated 5th August 1967 at Preston Station and it didn't have any nameplates on the 'Blinkers' They must have been removed for some reason?
So it would appear the info. is correct.

Can confirm it was 70039,as verified by the excellent Railtour info section of the Six Bells junction website. The train was the LCGB Thames-Tyne railtour from Euston -Carlisle-Newcastle-Kings Cross. The "Brit" worked it from Crewe to Carlisle via the S & C.Bill.

Where did the line to the right go to, anyone?

Comment by: roy on 23rd September 2010 at 14:08

i think more likely the whelley to plattbridge line. john.

The line to the right is, I think the sidings leading to the John pit and the wagon tipper at Crooke village, I remember taking coal wagons to the tipper.

The line to the right are Rylands sidings which connected the pit lines of John Pit, Robin Hill, Giants Hall to the main line, used to play there as a lad.

Towards the end of steam nameplates were removed from locomotives because they had became a target for souvenir hunters. Shed-masters “stored” them for safe keeping!
