Does anyone remember the Afghans and the loons from yesteryear? Our son Jeff was in a band called Spellbound managed by Bill Leyland at LE agency. They toured Germany for a spell. Jeff had an Afghan jacket and when we hung it out to dry and get rid of the smell, Birds were picking at it to line their nests!

Those afghan coats really did stink to high heaven when they got wet with rain, someone once told me that the afghans cured the skins with their urine, I could well believe it too.

They used to sell them at Chelsea Freak at the bottom of the Wiend in the seventies (along with loads more "desirable" clothing)

They were probably made in Manchester Cyril.

You could well be right Dave as there were quite a few sewing factory sweat shops around and about then. I can remember when those self styled hippies would come into the Market or Park Hotels and the smell of wet afghan coats along with the smell of stale patchouli oil was not a desirable aroma at all, enough to put you right off your bitter.

I was one of those people who frequented both the market and the park, never saw a pint turn in either of those establishments.
Had it been that off putting Mrs Brown would have had asked us to leave.Happy daze

I remember buying an Afghan coat and the smell in the back of my husband's hillman imp after a rain storm YUCK! No matter what you sprayed them with the smell would not go away. Needless to say the coat went pretty soon after
