Two Whelley line bankers heading back to Bamfurlong after one of the train crew had been relieved at Platt Bridge. 1962.

A lot of heavy traffic use the Whelley line, but how far up the track did the bankers go before returning back to Bamfurlong? I remember some coal trains being banked as far as De Trafford Junction.

I am 'just' old enough to remember steam trains passing under the Clinker Valley bridge. My maternal grandad used to take me there to watch them... or we would stop and wait if walking to his house in Spring View... I lived in Platt Bridge.

Another nice one Thomas... where DO you find them!

I did the walk countless times, just out of picture on the right, is the pond which now goes under the name of Gone fishing.

... and I am assuming just out off shot over the top road to the left... or lost in the white out on the left would be the massive letters 'CWS' on the glass works building.

Wrong Dennis.... CWS building is actually visible at the right side of the signal box, it can be seen through the bottom part of the signal gantry.

Thats a yes Dennis

oops, sorry to Dennis for wrong info and sorry to John, you are right sir, the glass works are visible to the right of the signal box, behind the signal gantry.

Yep... yep... I see it now it has been pointed out. It is not often I am right but I am wrong again!
