I wonder who owned the old car
So, on the right would have been Wallpaper Supplies?, and in the arcade was Dawsons music shop.
Is this Arcade still open, not been round there for a few years.
Good set of pics you've put up, Fred. Thanks.
I have not seen that view for a while, we passed the top of Grimes Arcade today and it is still boarded up.
At the time this photo was taken the building on the right was Timberlakes car work shop
Was'nt that Timberlake's Service Garage opposite the Van ?
It's actually Arcade St & Hewlett St is the continuation t'other side of Library St. Bretherton Row to the left of the car.
David Looks like we posted around the same time.
Was not the music shop, Grimes ?, and Dawsons in Library street accross the road from Timberlakes
It was Grimes arcade, Dawsons moved into King street from Hallgate, next to the Bricklayers.
Hi Derek in Aus,. yes that was the car workshop for Timberlakes, I remember going in there in the 60's to complain about their inadequate servicing of my father's car which led directly to a breakdown, their fault completely - no joy I'm afraid only bluster and shouting from the manager. After that I had a very dim view of the place.
nice photo ,is that penningtons furniture shop right at the top ?
Hi Ashley, My Brother-in-law served his apprenticeship there
in the 40's---PANEL Beater so I don't think you could blame
him for your troubles.(HaHa)
Yep farrie, the gap to the left of Penningtons is Stairgate, Christchurch on the left as you went down to Station Rd
Farrie50... yep, that would Penningtons.
Juat about where the second car is from the camera was a shop that sold typewriters in the 60s there was always about four of them in the window
