Coal train from Bickershaw at Platt Bridge on the 15 February 1992,taken at the same place as Harry Gardner's,disused Bickershaw line photo in 2006.

Nice photo,i do remember the class 60s being used on a lot of the MGR workings shortly before the pit closed & the line fell into disuse.
(the signal on the right is WN82 signal,& the token station/key token instrument is located inside the locked steel cabinet to the right of the signal)

This would be the rear of the train I take it? am I right in saying its going towards springs branch?

It certainly does look like the rear of the train as there is no driver in the cab,the hoppers look loaded with coal,indicating that its just come from the pit & heading for fidlers ferry power station,usually these trains were "topped & tailed" & had locos at either end.

I think there's no driver in the cab because he's behind the camera. ;-)
