THIS IS A RECENT PHOTOGRAPH. IN MY YOUTH THIS WAS BICKERSHAW'S BEACH. MRS HAYDOCK USED TO BRING HER ICE CREAM CART ON HOT DAYS. WE SWAM IN THE LODGE. DOES ANYONE HAVE PICS OF THE LODGE BEING USED IN THIS WAY. ANYONE KNOW ANTHING ABOUT ARLEY MINE WHICH I BELIEVE WAS NEARBY.

I remember the state of it after the Pop Festival you couldn't see the water for floating rubbish.Fished it many a time

the arley colliery was across the level crossing at the bottom of bolton house road about 8oo yads into the fields..billy boston the rugby player worked on the demolition of winding house and fan housing... me and R kid swam in the arley lodge

There were two lodges actually, one at the front and one at the back.Connected by a large pipe. Happy days!

our tommy used to have me sailing across there (to a little island in the middle) in a dolly tub. he also made me wade in until i came to a little ledge then lost my footing, maybe entrance to a little mine shaft. i soon learned how to swim
