It was a footbridge that went over the line

thanks winder i thought it might have been a water tower.was there a station nr by?.each side were track used to be there's walled area looks like it used be a platform

There was a tunnel in the early days of this line. It was ordered by the Crawford's of Haigh Hall. However, it collapsed, and was never replaced. Hence the wall on each side. I remember the footbridge, as pictured; from the late 1960's. I feel the graffiti dates back to that time also.

The foot bridge was there in the 50's and 60's. tony may have it right. grafitti something to do with thw 'nam' war!

does anyone know how long it took to complete whelley loop line,especialy the magnificant twenty bridges,it is so impresive,its shere size is stagering

the station on whelley loopline was right hand side of the main road next to the bridge it was used as a private dwelling till it was demolished

walked across that very bridge many times it was not very safe then it was about 50 yrs ago though and trains was still running there was steps down to station and there was public toilets on other side of road you can still see entrance to them have used them many times when going into woods through pit yard happy days eh
