dp2 passing through wigan north western,early 60s.this was an english electric experimental engine.only one manufactured.

This was the test bed for the class 50 (D400 series). Unfortunately it came to a sad end in July 1967 after a collision with a derailed cement train near Thirsk.

A VERY successful prototype for the Class 50s, made at Vulcan in Newton-le-Willows using a Deltic bodyshell. Given that it's on the WEST Coast Mainline and in original livery, this must be between May 1962 and Mid 1965 when it was given Deltic style two-tone green livery after a major overhaul. Good photo !
