A very hot day if I remember. Like an oven inside Wembley. My first visit. Went on the coach with my Mum.
A bit more decorum in those days when attending cup finals. There's even a lacy cloth over the blanket from which breakfast is being eaten.
I remember that day forever etched in my brain. I was a mere 14 year old i went to the final with my parents it was a glorious morning we walked over the pemberton pit rooks to pem station to catch the 6.15 am train to wembley, and on the train was also my uncle jack and auntie maggie they boarded the train in upholland /skemersdale ? they supported saints .. Like the other person says it was boilg hot that day ,and wigans choice of heavy red shirts did not help saints were in all white as we know white white reflects , but what upsets me to this day was the NON TRY that billy boston scored and was ruled he had stepped in touch ,,, well i can state on my life there was no such thing . the posistion we had was at the tunnel end as it was we were in direct line with the touch line , the rest is history. I was also my very first viewing of THE BAND OF THE ROYAL MARINES . their instruments were truly shinning iv'e never seen items shine as good since Plus the other thing was the saints try by tom van vollenhoven the length of the field superb but a few more yards and skipper eric ashton would have caught him i have never seen a player cover so much ground at that angle again superb ...DITTO BROADY !
