Where was the Bird In th' Hand?
I can only think it is the one in Gathurst Road?
Or perhaps the Bird i' th'Hand in Gidlow Lane - the 'Henhole'.
Unless it was just the name they gave to the club, which would be fairly appropriate.
Coincidentally I have just been looking at an Auction catalogue for Pubs, Beer houses etc. from the 1920's and The BIRD'ITH HAND at Marsh Green is mentioned. I think it was number 53 Marsh Green?
That would probably put it all around where the pensioner's bungalows are now Ron, on the right hand side going up from Scot Lane.
ron my father inlaw was a pigion fancier and went about a bit in competitions he lived in hr ince geoff pennington and i swear the fellow on the back top left is him but he was born in 1909 so unless it were late 20s he would have been about 19 or 20 my hubby picked him out as well, wonderful pic ron where did you get it?
Josie, it was sent to me by a friend. I'm sure if you went to the History Shop and looked through the back issues of the Observer there will be something about this club. Possibly it will give results of the races, with the owners names?
