The evening of the Lancashire Cup Final win against the "red-hot" favourites Salford, (who were led by Gus Risman) on October 22nd 1938. Wigan had returned to the Clubhouse at Central Park to celebrate their win (probably with cups of tea all round).
Jim is holding the cup and it was thanks to his 5 goals that victory was achieved by 10 points to 7, it could have been more if his drop goal from the halfway line had not bounced off the crossbar back into play.
I think you can tell from the expressions just how pleased the players and directors were with this win against the odds. Salford had beaten Wigan on no fewer than 3 other occasions in finals in 1934, 1935 and 1936 seasons.
Ken Gee (out of shot) and George Banks who had made his way home to Yorkshire are the only two players missing from the winning team in this photo.
