Played at fullback/wing for Wigan in 178 matches, scoring 30 tries, 551 goals and 9 drop goals. Originally from Kelso R.U Club, he was also a player coach at Wigan before being replaced by Maurice Bamford and then transferring to HKR for a then record fee of £72000. (Man of Steel Award 1980) Also represented England and GB.

Too young to remember George Fairburn in his Wigan days, but defo remember his times for Hull Kingston Rovers, playing against Wigan. Great full back and a pin point kicker - a Scottish Rugby League player is quite unusual - was the Man of Steel in 80' so earns my respect!
