Ron, I think the date of this news article is actually 1971, not 1991.
The lady's age is given as 74, but there is no record of a Margaret Burkey born at any time around 1917, which would fit with a 1991 date.
There was however, a Margaret Burkey born in the Wigan Reg District in 1897, and the 1901 census shows someone of that name as 4 years old, and living with her parents at the King Billy, Platt Bridge, where her father is the licensee.

I think you have got the date of your press cutting wrong.
Miss Burkey died in the late 1990s only a few months short of her 'century', so she couldn't have been 74 in 1991.
She was a friend of my late mother.

The handwritten date on the paper does actually say 1971 but I can easily understand how Ron saw it as 1991....I had to hold it up very close to read it and it is deceiving.

Just checked and yes it is 1971. Should have gone to SPECSAVERS.. Hang on I did... I will go back and get my money back..

Miss Burkey was buried in Hindley Cemetery on 8th Jan 1997 aged 99.
