Oh my giddy aunt! It just gets better and better... You have put flesh on the bones of my ancestors Lyndon. That is little Edna as far as I know she was an only child! Samuel looks like he loves his dinners and Elizabeth looks a bit poker faced - my mam could be like that at times! I am thrilled to bits! I need to get these photos printed off on good quality photographic paper. Can't wait to show my brother! I know they lived at number 4 Darlington St. I think Edna went to the Bluecoat School. Looks like she has a whip in her hands. They do look familiar somehow. Thank you very much Lyndon. ...I shan't be able to stop looking at them.

I'm here again Lyndon- it must be Elizabeth and Samuel my gut feeling is its them. My mother was called after Elizabeth and known as 'Tizzy' to that family but known as Betty by everybody else. I can definitely see some resemblance to some of the people in these photo especially Elizabeth. There is a photo of my mother in the mill on here but it's under work and Sunpat -it's a photo with 4 ladies on and she is the lady on the right. See if you can see any likenesses. Thanks once again.

Lyndon the more I look at my grt grandmother I'm starting to see myself!!!
It's uncanny -there is a picture of me on the next page under Veronica Catterall taken when I was 21. Although I'm supposed to favour my dad I can see my mother as I've got older- especially if I happen to glance in a shop window and see my reflection!,! ***! I must admit I know what some of the celebrities feel like now when they see pictures of their ancestors on " Who Do You Think You Are". It's been most enjoyable !!!

They probably are related Enid. When the Crompton's first moved to Hindley from Bolton they lived at Stoney Row ...I wonder where that was!

Comments by Veronica, 12th July 2017
Just wondering why they would travel to Horwich to have the photo taken.

I thought perhaps they had relatives in Bolton still ...or Horwich for that matter Enid. Thanks for letting me know where Stony Row was as well...it's very interesting. I'll look to see if there are any old pictures of Hindley around that area on here!

Veronica - The 'shop window reflection' bit, gives a delightful touch to your rigorous pursuit of compiling a family tree.

Probably grasping at straws Philip...ever hopeful....!

Veronica, where did Stoney Row come from. I understood Samuel and his family moved from Bolton shortly after re-marrying in 1850 and in the 1851 census they lived at New Scholes in Hindley. There is a striking resemblance between the lady in your photo and the lady in mine, also between the two children. That is why I thought the lady in your photo was Elizabeth Crompton. Incidentally you bear a strong resemblance to your mum on the Sunpat photo and I can understand why your photo has amassed such a following.

You are correct Lyndon -Samuel born 1808 Bolton
Marriage to Ann Bailey St Mary's Dean she died 1847
marriage to Betty Austin (Butterworth ) St Peters Bolton
(shows his father as Henry)
Residence 1851 3 new Scholes Hindley
""""""""""""""1861 Ellesmere St. "
Death 1873. Buried All Saints Age 65 of Deansgate Hindley.
I have trawled through so many records looking for the said Henry who I may have found living in Stoney Row in Bolton as a weaver that I can't keep all the Samuels in order! It keeps me occupied in the winter months anyway!
I wonder where New Scholes was? Enid might know!

Further to my last post Lyndon the next Samuel Crompton born 1833 Halliwell Bolton after his marriage to Mary Winnard resided at Darby lane in 1871. The next census 1881 age 48 he lives at 203 Stoney Lane Hindley.
1891 he resides at 205 Low Green Rd Hindley.
I knew I had seen Stoney Lane !,! It's keeping all the Samuels in order!
Anyway all thanks to you for the photos -it has been a revelation!
