My Nan Maggie Sharratt is the one in the black bonnet in the background. What a great photo this is, will have been taken in the early 1930,s I think.

Fab photo, they used their iniative with costumes, especially for the times, in between 2 world wars. I remember May Queens when I was growing up in Ince in the 1950's. Costumes made out of all kinds of bits and pieces!

Yes, I was in many a May Queen! We dressed up in crepe paper costumes, with the Queen resplendent in her Mam's net curtain and a cardboard crown. "Please help the May Queen" we chanted, collecting pennies and threepenny bits, then back to someone's back-yard where their Mam would refresh us with jam butties and pop. Happy, happy days!
