Photograph of Lawrence Isherwood painting Susan Beverley Ward in his studio in Wigan 7-5-75. My friend, who loaned me this photograph, has the actual painting. Does anyone know this girl?

I am no fan of Isherwood but I like that painting. It actually resembles the subject, unlike Isherwood's usual paintings.

Irene - You clearly recognize he could ring the changes. You've also exercised your privilege of making a comparison, and subsequent personal preference, in the manner that can't possibly offend. Oh, by the way, your previous mention of the Golly token having been tucked-in behind the label on the jar, still 'sizzles'.

That made your day about the golly badges, didn't it, Philip?! I like it when something like that comes on here because we all remember different things about a product or a place and can exchange memories. When I talk with childhood friends it never ceases to amaze me how one of us has a memory of something that the others have completely forgotten!

Philip, I am just sitting here , (bored with the film Peter is watching), and just staring into space, and the advert for Robertson's Jam just came into my head out of the blue....."Look for the Golly....The Golly on the jar!".....I frighten myself sometimes! x.

Irene - You have indeed a fertile mind and quite entitled to exercise it in any way you choose ie recalling imagining wishing, but you must allow Mr Roberts his 'Me Time' - he's your powerhouse. Continued best... .

Ron, the girl in the painting is my Mother. Does your friend still own the portrait?

We have visited said friend this afternoon, who is a very lovely gent. And had a photo with the portrait.
Mum would like to correct that this painting was actually done at the Scarisbrick Hotel in Southport and took around 8 hours to complete, hence the grumpy face in this photo!
