This is a picture of my Uncle Tom, my Dad's brother. He with my Uncle Joe were in the Lancashire Regiment so were in Singapore at its fall to the Japanese. My Uncle Tom died on the Burma Railroad, my Uncle Joe who was with him, had to burn his body and bury what was left. Joe came back with one lung and weighing less than 7 stone. How he survived nobody knows.

My Uncle Joe told me they were defending the strategically important tennis courts at the officers mess when they were captured. The Japanese just came the opposite way than they expected and were 6ft 2ins and not four foot three with funny buck teeth as they had been told.

Thanks to Carl Potts who has made an excellent job of cleaning up the original defaced photo.

I'm sat here with tears in my eyes, you could weep for what they went through.
First class soldiers and first class murderers, from the opposite direction and on bicycles.
Why oh why was the order not given Every Man For Himself instead of delivering them in to their hands.
