My Nana's father Aaron Heaton (my namesake) met a tragic end on 6 September 1923--when the scaffolding he and two of his friends/co-workers were removing, shortly after lunch, gave way. The other 2 men were injured (one with a broken thigh, the other a few bumps/bruises.) Aaron fell some 80 yards and was killed hitting the pipes.
He, 9 of his 10 brothers and their father worked for the Colliery for many, many years.
Aaron was also a member of the Miners Rescue Squadron
