Her name is written on the back of the photo and the address, 307 Warrington Road, Abram.
Was this picture taken in Abram?
Looks like the 1930s.
The building in the background could be the old clinic/scouthut on the Rec. with the Maypole pit chimney just visible to the left. The picture could be in the rear garden/allotment of 307 Warrington Road where the ex. Police houses now stand.
The wooden building in the background looks like the old clinic which was later used as a Scout Hut.It was situated on the "Rec" adjacent to St. John's St Abram. There was an allotment where the garden is shown in the photo. If it is the Clinic' the Police station would be where the garden/allotment was.
The allottments are still there and the pit chimmney that can be seen would be the junction colliery, the Maypole is to the right of the old scout hut and wouldn't be visible.
A delightful photograph indeed. Unfortunately, as far as I know, there is no connection whatsoever between the lady in this photograph, and the Houghton family who are the subject of this file, apart from sharing the same surname.
would you have any more information? This could be my fathers mother. I think her name was May, my dad was born in 1931,he had an older brother and two sisters. either way it is a lovely picture.
The lady is my grandmas sister. My grandma was Doris Jackson (nee Houghton) The boy on her knee was my dad Jimmy Jackson who lived at 305 Warrington Road until he died in April this year. May had no children. The allotments are still there and the ex police houses are to the left of the photo.
