We went on holiday to Durham where our mother's family lived. The journey from Downall Green to Durham took hours - involving buses to Earlstown station and then catching the Liverpool to Newcastle train which stopped at Durham.Quite a journey for a family of seven! I loved it - it was always an amazing adventure.
Geoff, my parents had very good friends in 'Seaham' Co Durham and we used to go there for holidays. I'm sure we used to go from Wigan Central Station. I'm getting mixed up now, that may have been when we went to Doncaster.. Anyway we always had a good time in Durham..
hi geoff,, thats a great photo of all the family,,, its great explaining to my family,,who is who ,,and when,, i can honestly say we was blessed with great neighbours ,all thru our childhood..
Janet, what an amazing coincidence that you should be going up Durham way at about the same time as we were!I never knew.Small world.
Hi Eddie thanks for your comments. You are so right about having great neighbours. It's only when you're older that you can really appreciate how lucky we were to live where we did when we did.We might not have had as much as kids today but I think we were much better off in so many other ways.
