Possibly Appley Lane North?

Comment by: Mark Conroy on 2nd October 2008 at 20:11

I thought it may be Appley Lane North past the station, Mick.Be I'm not sure.

I think its appley lane north because there bungalows on appley lane south except fot Les Platts

And it looks like it could have been took before the quarry got as big as it did.

A little bit more info Mark.
The second pair of semi detatched were the first to be built in 1896.No 8 was i believe the Close family, later to be married into the Silverwood family who still live there.

I can see the steps going up to the front door now so you are right but what is the low building on the left of the photo

Comment by: kevin brown on 27th December 2008 at 18:08

Hello Mick,
The building on the left is on Appley Lane
It is the first detatched house after the 3 bugalows, the last bungalow was lived in for many years by the Bentham family

Hi Kevin I can see now that you have pointed it out that they are on Appley Lane.

I remember a Pam Bentham I think she married one of the Valentines.

I Lived in No 6 it was my first house when we got married, bought it from the Entwistle family and I believe Dr Shaw had it previously. The Silverwood family lived at No 8

I now live at nos 2 and 4 which are one house inside (although will probably separate again when the children leave), but still two doors on the outside. No 6 only had two owners in last 15 years; daughter of the silverwoods now at number 8.

Ahhhh my house and family home! Matt said the Wheatsheaf pub has a large picture of this on the wall and first time he went in there he looked then looked again and said blimey it's out house how funny!
Lovely early photo without all the leggy trees that have sprouted in front of the houses. So much lighter back then.

lived at No.4 in the early 60's with my parents and sister.
My grandmother lived at 50 Appley Lane North and was the factory nurse at the Lino Works.
