A photo of Millgate Chippy, taken around the end of 2004, just before the bulldozers moved in. I remember as a youngster going here for a sixpence bag of chips and scrapings, and a penny crust after going to the old baths.

Another touch of nostalgia, thanks for posting!
We also used to go there on Saturdays for a bag of chips and a penny crust after Wigan baths (getting cold shivers remembering the freezing water there).

Yea, the owners at the time put up a very long and hard fight to keep the chippy open, unlike the Pet Shop just down the side that gave in with a nice wave of the Wigan Metro Cheque Book.
I think they should have incorporated such a great chippy in with the new arcade, as they did with the frontal of the old Ship Hotel.

I used to go to this chippy, every day when I was an apprentice at Lowes Market Place for dinners for the tradesmen ( lunches for our southern brothers). The price list said Bread and Butter(10%buter) . That was political correctness before it was invented
