Another photograph of Wallgate probably late 50's early 60's. Note the number of tobacco adverts on Taylor newsagents shop. Again we've forgotten that Wallgate was once two way traffic, not like the dual carriageway of today

I'd say the 1950s, going by the 'Gandy' advert on the parapet of Wallgate railway bridge. I remember a 'Magees Ales' advert there right through the '60s and for many years after.

on the left of taylors paper shop . with the little railing is Dr Portmans..the shop after the opening was grimshaws chippy and i would say it was taken in the mid 50s

The Wigan Corporation bus is a Leyland bodied Leyland PD2, 93 AEK506 new in 1953. The first full height highbridge double deckers were 30 in 1950, JP8300-8329, followed by 12 more in 1953, AEK501-512. All following front engined double deckers from 1956 to 1968 were bodied in Wigan by both Massey and Northern counties, rear entrance CEK837-841, DEK105-113, DJP751-759, and front entrance EJP501-510, GJP8-19. HEK705-707, HJP1-11, JJP502-509, KEK739-750, AEK1-10B, DEK2-3D, DEK4-7E and FEK1-9F.
