Great photo for all the fans of the Wallgate thread.I am sure the shop by the bus is where we went for penny cordials and also the photo remends of a shoe shop by Seven Stars Bridge where parents could get shoes for their children for a small weekly payment.Cheers John.
Absolutely brilliant photos, should imagine about late fifties but brings back great memories of when Wigan was Wigan not just another clone town.

Another classic photo from John. These are photos I love to view. Takes me back when I was a kid in the sixties. I'd almost forgotten what Wallgate looked like, but photos like these really jog my memory. Thanks John. Keep posting photos like this and the others that you have posted.
I remember one of the shops on the right had the owners name over the window F.LEA always had a chuckle when we saw it
Another nostalgic picture.have you noticed how clean the roads aand pavements are? and this was deemed a slum clearance area.
Next to Fanny Lea's newsagents was Mary HIgson's hairdressers.
and just to top that then tickle st just in front , fanny lees shop on corner n rieleys on the other side i lived at 210 wallgate the road was two way traffic not the mess like now n 1 more jack craggs veg shop nxt to mushys temprence bar lol

I do chris for sixpence you could get a glass of pop (Dandelion and Burdock, or Creme Soda) I had to stand on the bench to reach the counter, this will have been late sixties early seventies

In 1959 Wigan Corporation front engine Leyland PD double deckers changed from rear to front entrance. There were 81 up to 1968 bodied locally by Massey and Northern Counties: EJP501-510, GJP8-19, HEK705-707, HJP1-11, JJP502-509, KEK739-750, AEK1-10B, DEK2-3D, DEK4-7E and FEK1-9F. All passed to GMT in 1974 and the majority repainted orange and white. This is Massey bodied EJP504.
