I believe the picture is well after the 60's.I joined the old borough force in 64,and spent many hours directing traffic at the top of Market Place, sucking in the car fumes etc . This picture has to be around the 1970 era. Is the John Collier the same John Collier I worked with during that time? John Ashurst....now living in Cyprus.

It's before 1970 because the "New Arcade" isn't there

This has to be 1971 the shop next to jackson the tailor was Brooks Bros up till 1970 then it became Sarah Lynns the bakers. I worked in Brooks Bros till I moved to Johnson the Cleaners. in late 1970 the Bobby was directing traffic in his white coat and lit from above by a light hanging on a wire. I remember once asking the Bobby on traffic duty to come into Johnsons shop to deal with a customer who would not pay his bill, wsa it You?

In between the Sarah Lynn shop and the True=Form shop is the Wigan Corporation bus office. At the front of the office
is the Corporation van, which was used to carry the heavy
bags of money from the Bus Depot at Melverley Street, after
the bus conductors had "Paid in" their takings the previous
day.
