OS Revision Point photograph taken from the railway embankment showing the buildings of Whitley Farm (also known as Whitley Hall Farm) in the background. With Scouts Hill to the left and the houses on Wigan Lane in the background. The farm was accessed from a track leading off Sittingbourne Road.
My Grandad Ernie Richardson was working the farm at the time this photograph was taken and my Mum grew up there. She used to tell me tales of going out with my Grandad in the horse and cart delivering milk down Wigan Lane before she went to school in the mornings. A different world.

I wonder if that land is built on now Dave ?
My Bryson grandparents lived in St Clements Rd. The house they lived in was built before the 2nd WW. On photos I have the land surrounding the house looked like it had been open fields before being built on & even when I was young there were no houses right down to the railway line. We used to run all the way down there to sit on the fence & watch trains roaring by.
As you say , a different world now.

I'm sure it's built on now

Yeah it's all houses now Helen, apart from a small area at the bottom where Barley Brook runs. When I was growing up in the 1970's and early 80's Whitley School and its playing fields occupied the area. It was still a great place for kids to go, and as you say, watch the trains roaring by.
