I remember Digmoor reasonably well, my Dad & a friend went into partnership & ran a sideline in chickens...it was when the awful system of battery hens was novel & new.
My cousin Enid Barton was married at Digmoor Methodist Church & my friends & I used to mess about at Tawd Bridge...a photo can dredge up all sorts to memories. Must look up Daniels Lane.
I see Digmoor Methodist Church is still there or was when Google Street View was filmed. I have a pic of the wedding group I mentioned, all lined up in front of the front doors. The land around it all built up now.
Thanks for the memories David !
Helen - did Enid Barton become Enid Ashall?
If so, she had the unrewarding task of trying to teach me at UpHolland village infants school, in the early 1960s.
Her daughter (Katherine?) was in my class.
I knew Harold and Enid fairly well back in the day. Katherine tried to teach me to play guitar.
Helen, the Methodist Church as a building is still there but it closed after its 150th anniversary in 2019
Yes Mick she married Harold Ashall who was Headmaster at the junior school at Holland Moor. Enid is well into her 90's now & lives near Katherine.....if you look at People/Bradshaw Family/ photos you will find Enid's wedding photo & one of her when she was a pupil at Upholland Grammar School.
Small world !
Many thanks, Helen.
David would this gentleman be related to a Fred Roughley who used to work in the Savoy chip shop on Hope Street
Joe, If he came from Upholland there is a possibility but it is a common name in Wigan and West Lancs
