View taken looking towards Wigan the BRIDGEWATER pub can be seen on the other side of the bridge.
Are you that courting couple?

The pub is the Crown Hotel New Springs and the newly built canal bridge.
I would say the early 1970s

Walked along that path many times, in our courting day's. Happy memories!!

No hill behind the Crown and tow path is on the wrong side

Garry its the BRIDGEWATER . The CROWN has two windows on one side side of the door and as Wigan Mick said. The towpath is on the same side of the canal as the Crown .

Definatley the Bridgewater pub fondly known as Sackies by the locals

I can never remember houses on the opposite side of the road from the BRIDGEWATER? But I probably only had been to that location a couple of times in my life when this photograph was taken.

The concrete lamp post left of centre shows the line of the road - with the houses on the same side as the pub - and the garages or sheds on the same side as the Packet House - which still stands - to the left of the lamp post.
