Edge Hall Road, Orrell is where Orrell rugby union football club is. The railway station can be seen at the bottom. At the end of the road is a footpath that crosses the M58 and comes out at the Mount Hotel near the M6 bridge.
I recognise the scene when I caught the train there a few weeks ago after going to Upholland. I walked to Orrell from Upholland.
Mr X not Orrell RU at Edge Hall Rd since 2007. The now play at John Rigby.
Its a sorry tale.
Born and bred in Orrell,as kids in the 50s and 60 s we used to be around that area .Across from the houses was a small entrance to the railway we called The Duke's ,Spent hours along the banking with our jam butties and a bottle of corporation pop (water )Simple magical days when kids had some imagination..We all had a teffic childhood in those days ,feel so sad for the kids today ,they haven't a clue !!!!

Brian, Kids today have no conception of the Happiness we had as kids. Without any money or electronic gear costing hundreds of pounds. I lived in Howard St Pemberton At the top of the street in Worsley St. was Pemberton Caravans and outside of the gate there was always a large skip which was always filled with small off cuts of wood. We would get a sack full and they became not OFF CUTS OF TIMBER but with a vivid imagination, they were transformed with some imagination into...Garages, Forts, Various Buildings, etc. Kept us amused for weeks. Easily destroyed by invading Red Indians or Germans and rebuilt into something else.
Hello Ron , Pemberton was a great place for our gang.We used to go to the Queen's Cinema on Saturday afternoons .We called it the sixpenny rush Hundreds of kids rushing in to watch Roy Rodgers Hop along Cassidy and the Lone Ranger .Pea shooters an all haha.My brother worked for Pem caravans for some time ,I remember it well .Our childhoods in those days were magical ,as you mention,no tech ,just the imagination to make things that kept us amused and out of trouble. So many happy memories as kids always fondly remembered. Thanks for your response Ron ,There are still some of us normal fok still around eh!haha. Brian.
Not forgetting our very own 'ALTON TOWERS' or as locally known 'T'LONG WALL' All day entertainment for free.
I remember as a child that Mathers the local doctors had a surgery in a house along Edge Hall Rd before moving to Church St where the waiting area had a set of seats out of Billinge Cinema.
