Following the passing of our Queen Elizabeth, upon 2 visits to Wigan town
centre from last Friday, I noticed a flag flying at half mast on the tower of
Wigan Parish Church. It is the flag of St George of England. Perhaps I have
got this wrong, I would have expected the Union Flag being flown, because
Her Majesty was the monarch of all of the United Kingdom, and countries
all over the world. Also, in more recent years, a fair number of people who live in this town are from many places all over the world.

Ray, All Saints is a Church of ENGLAND establishment, hence the Flag of ENGLAND being flown at half-mast?

By Royal Warrant the flag to be flown on Church of England churches is the Cross of St George (with or without the Diocesan Arms in the upper left quarter). Flying it is not a political statement. The Church of England is in mourning for its Supreme Governor.

The Parish Church is church of England not Britain.

I am aware that Wigan Parish Church represents The Church of England.
I would have preferred the Union Flag being flown because of the recent
passing of Queen Elizabeth.

Why not The Commonwealth flag?
