Thanks to Neil Linford for this rare image. showing the proposed EMPRESS ballroom and garage. can anyone confirm if the garage was ever built?

Wonderful buildings like this, which must have cost a fortune to build, are often not suitable for any other purpose and seem to be demolished after less than 100 years. Wigan Town Hall, lots of town centre pubs, 1987 Market Hall buildings, Drill Hall and many more were all reduced to rubble to be replaced by non descript buildings like the Civic Centre. I don't know how the so called planners of this town can be proud of the work they do.
