Perhaps today it would have had some sort of preservation order on it as a listed building...but even listed buildings don't seem to fare very well in Wigan. A case of out with the old...or not so old !
Its a lovely building.
This village should have been created as a ‘showcase’ (or living museum of days gone by) it would make great attraction. The building above would have made a lovely coffee shop. Wigan doesn’t make enough of its beautiful stone villages.
Very quaint and cramped looking, but I suppose like other folks at the time they just got on with things, and with bright white shirts drying on the line too. Many world changing events happened in its time too with plagues, wars etc., a pity it got to be destroyed. Here are a few historical events that happened in 1661. http://www.eventshistory.com/date/1661/
I wouldn't have liked to have been one of the executioners of Cromwell, after being dead for two years, he would've stunk rotten.
I remember Peter Liptrot having this shop it was demolished around 1966.
