I don't see one Wigan related item on that photo. What was the point?
The articles were from the ROBERT OPIE collection, which for a time was based at the Pier, They are in a TIME LINE to represent the WAY WE WERE exhibition. It wasn't just the History of Wigan. It was a representation of the way people lived, and the everyday things that were around at the time.
I can see on the photo The Orwell pub and the other Pier buildings, also parts of the Wallgate area and the emblem Wigan Pier, all on the front cover of the visitor guide and they're all Wigan related.
If I recall, there was a tourist/visitors centre at Trencherfield Mill that was part of 'The Way We Were' experience.
It sold merchandise connected to Wigan Pier and the guided tour around the Mill itself was definately an enjoyable afternoon.
The shop and café closed many years ago, long before the site was completely redeveloped into the residential apartments that stand there now.
I do recall that 'The Way We Were' theme was about historic life in general, and not necessarily about life in Wigan.
I am sure a brochure like this is very much a cherished possession.
