DTease: Wouldn't it be a lot nicer if it was wider and canal boats can go through, this would also bring the woods further back to nature.
Maybe we should all bring the pace of life down a bit, let nature do what she wants to do, she just might rectify things.

Well, it's NOT a railway anymore, the track was lifted in the 1970s. Looks more like a stream than anything else.
Nature is being returned.

Considering the chaos on the railways these days John G it would probably be quicker getting around if they turned all the Railways into canals. Roll on HSC (High-Speed Canal).

There was a proposal in the 1940s/50s to build a Grand Contour Canal along the 300' contour line across and down the country - providing both a lock-free Continental-sized barge canal, and a means of transporting water from the wet north to the south. We decided to build roads and close our railways instead....

DTease/ Alan: When I was at the Hospital they sent me on a course for a week to Manchester.
I arrived at Sutton station in St Helens for 7:30am to go to picadilli station Manchester.
The train came down the line on time but as it stopped at the station no one got off and no one could get on, it was an engine and two carridges full to the rafters.
I said to the station master, ""What do I do now I have to be there for Nine, he said catch the next one in 20mins, and get off at Newton le Willows, wait there for 20mins and get on the train coming from Wales.
He said they never put on enough carridges, I said has any one told them, he said "every single day," now that cost me nearly £80 for the week.
