Ron! I don'nt know the where abouts of Ashton Cross Road. This shot is Ashton town centre, the junction of Warrington Rd. Gerard St. Bryn St. and Liverpool Rd. I am sure Ozy. will know the wagons. The first one looks like an ancient British Road Services Leyland; but what do I know
I wasn't saying that it was ASHTON CROSS ROAD just that it was taken at a cross road in Ashton. I now know where it is.
The first lorry is a Dennis, belonging to British Road Services, and the second lorry looks like a Thornycroft.
Dennis lorries were built in Guildford, Surrey, and the
Thornycroft was built in Basingstoke, Hampshire.
The number plate on the first lorry looks like JNF 652, a
Manchester Registered lorry. The second lorry number plate
is JP ????, Registered in Wigan. Perhaps Ron can have a look
at it with his magnifying glass.
Building behind second lorry is the old old police station. (Ashton now having a newer old police station). Just as a matter of interest, isn't Ashton Cross down Liverpool Road, about 1 click from this location?
could someone please tell me, are the two lorries heading towards Wigan from this junction ?, the street name appears to be Bryn Road so is it the A49. Many Years since I was last in A I M, thanks.
Eh up JJP, Tha needs to go to Specsavers, The sign is
Bryn Street, not Bryn Road, Dear me...
Slip of the tongue Ray, meant to say Bryn Road.
JJP, the lorries are heading towards Wigan. At the junction they are going toward would be the traffic lights where the option was to turn left at either Low Bank Road or the A49 Wigan Road.
Ray, you think the lorry following lorry is a Thorneycroft. I think it is either that or a Maudsley
JJP gave you some bum info re heading towards Wigan. Should have referred to Ashton Old Road and Wigan Road and not Low Bank Road.
Who can I trust, wrong info, I wouldn't like to get directions of you lot!!!
DerekB...Could be a Maudslay, or even a Crossley, made in
Manchester. If the JP Reg.Number could be ascertained, that
would identify what looks like it could be a local fruit and veg lorry.
Definately not Low Bank Road. But Geographers A-Z shows just Old Road, not 'Ashton' Old Road
