Model Loco. No. 6142 full head of steam on the miniature railway. 53 years on do they still have the track layout or has it been scrapped like a lot of our yesterdays.??

A long time friend of mine, the late Ron Smith had a 7 1/4"
gauge live steam Stanier "Black 5" locomotive. It was named
"John" after his son,who I would like to get in contact with
again. Ron Smith had a Foden artic lorry which can be seen
in the "Work/Transport" section of Wigan World.

I never knew this place was going in the 1960s. Only knew about it in the early 90s. I bet a lot of people, even model steam enthusiasts, never knew they had a Wigan Model railway in the plantations of Haigh Hall.

At Royden Park on the Wirral, there is a similar layout operated by the Wirral Model Engineering Society. They also operate the slightly larger scale railway in the same park. Well worth a visit.
Must be nearly 15 years since I walked through Haigh Hall grounds.
