Doesn't look like "Vicarage" at St James Orrell, as a matter of accuracy if it was St James, as a Catholic church, the priests house would be called a Presbytery.
Doesn't look like a Vicarage to me either, the way it has been spelled on the postcard, Vcarage !!!
Doesn't look like St James' but the photo was taken well before our time, things do change, even the trees and vegitation etc can make a difference.
I put the writing on the front of the card and obviously had a senior moment and never checked the spelling Dohhhh. It was what was written on the back of the card.
I'm not convinced that this is St James', Orrell. I've been to St Joseph's RC, Wrightington today and the presbytery adjacent to the church looks very similar to the photo. I wondered if this could possibly be that?
The picture of "St James Presbytery" on the first page of this link is the accurate one and is much as it is today. The Original Presbytery with the adjacent Church was built in the then Moor Ditch road in 1805, the cottage to the left of the presbytery was built later.
