That puts the finishing touches to the debate Dennis, we should now have no doubt as to which pub or bridge, well done !. Do you remember just before the Wigan bus got to this point the conductor would shout " Woodfield Street". However, that house attached must have sat almost on the old bridge, just over the bridge the shout was "Chapel Street". Dennis, where did those days disappear too !.

JJP, I remember when we had to catch the bus from Aspull to New Springs for woodwork lessons ( We had the lessons in a prefab building on Ash Lane ) You had to feel sorry for the poor old Bus Conductor, there he was having a nice quiet day when his bus was suddenly invaded by twenty odd urchins who would have made the Bash Street Kids look like Choirboys. This poor man had to try and count this lot and issue a ticket for each one, this was a job equivalent to counting maggots in a tin lid.
The only one with a job worse than his belonged to the poor wretched pupil that the Headmaster had singled out for unwanted task of being responsible for seeing that a certain number of children set out on this expedition and that a similar number returned from said expedition. The Headmaster picked this pupil by deeming one kid fractionally more sensible than the rest ( A difficult task that must have cost him many sleepless nights ) Surprisingly we usually ' Counted them all out and counted them all in' as they say. Off course there is always the possibility that some parents took advantage of the situation and never reported their wretched offspring missing.

tel s, Under normal circumstances, I would be content to sit in the corner of the games room with a pint of Columbus do da, but since you mention it, I wouldn't mind sampling a small measure of whatever it is that you've just had, and can anyone tell me where I can obtain a bottle of Liquoqvae7r? I've never seen it in Lidl, Aldi neither. Maybe Tesco's have it.

Is this pub the one now called the Crown as Garry says? which is as I have always known it since I moved to Aspull.

Things we got up to when young used to go in there 1976 Sunday afternoon for a lock in we used to buy the first pint and when nearly empty glass asked for half plant being hand draft it was always filled to brim but only charged for half . No wonder it was packed to the rafters.

Harry C buildings in picture were on Aspull side of bridge on site of planted trees

Thanks GC. That clears it up at last, the Bridgewater was on Aspull side of the bridge and no longer exists.

Can anyone tell me when all this property on the main rd was demolished? I seem to remember it from 40yrs ago......I always liked to come this way back to Scholes. It struck me as being vey quaint and I'm almost sure the road was cobbled. Somebody please tell me if I am right.

was Ken Fletchers dad the last landlord of this pub, I seem to remember it only had one room on the left as you went in, with a living room on the right.
