Looking eastward, the down Home signal is 'on', indicating a that no train is due for Liverpool. I always regarded Orrell Station as a bit special compared to the basic amenities of Pemberton. I think it was the covered footbridge that made it so different. This could have been taken on a Sunday, as the place is totally deserted.
'Indicating that there is no train going to Liverpool'. Edit.
I can't follow your comments Jarvo?
What Jarvo means Garry!.......
is that the semaphore signal peeking out over the top of the road bridge is horizontal & in the "On" position I.E. meaning it is set at DANGER!!!!!!,
That means...
STOP!!!!!!,
RED!!!!!!!
DO NOT PROCEED!!!!
DON'T GO ANY FURTHER!!!
DON'T PASS THIS SIGNAL!!!!
Thus also meaning that no train is signalled through the station in the Down direction (Liverpool direction).
Clear enough for you now pal?
(Roll eyes)
Still NO!
Back in the 50/60’s at Orrell Station you were always welcomed by the cheerful Porter little Billy Topping, as we boys got off the train “ Been train spotting boys?”, he would always say.
