I loved going to the library. Walking there every week to change my books. My Mum and Dad had their wedding recpetion in an upstairs room - 1957.
Little has changed around there. Good clear shot.
In 1940 we lived opposite on the corner of Bulteel St Then ,it was an " Air Raid " post with a Huge water tank in front, a siren on the roof and manned by air raid wardens
When the siren went off the clock on our mantelpiece rattled about. Oddley the siren did not sound when the bomb dropped near Goose Green Church and we felt that blast
This photo really is great has it reminds me of when I was a baby my mother used to tell me around 1948/1951s, she would wrap me in a shawl and from where we lived at 460 ormskirk rd, she would carry me around the "half-way house pub" down "ellesmere rd, to the library, round there and back home this was so she used to tell me it were the only way to get me to go to sleep. And in those days there was a red phone box at the side of the library on the ormskirk rd side and even at 3/4/5 years young honest I do remember that box,so I am happy to see it, with the fondest of memories thank you.
I am glad you like it Alan and as Garry says it does look much the same now.
The tree on roof was there for years.
Is the trees still growing out the roof, Duncan? lol.
No Garry though there is a clock on the little tower nowadays.
I lived at 392 on the left of the library
