Probably late 70s.

Judging by the clothes of the two girls walking downnhill to the left of the bus, I'd say late 1970s, Ron.

I think the 624 to Bottling Wood was one of the last bus routes in the Wigan area to operate with a conductor in the 1980s.

Not because it was busy (there hardly ever seemed to be anyone on), but because turning around at the terminus involved reversing the bus, which required supervision by a conductor. The same thing applied on the 629 to Abbey Lakes.

Definitely 1970s. Lovely to see Rumbelow's again, and is that Freeman, Hardy and Willis half-hidden by the bus?

Was chamberlains music shop next to rumbelows or next door but one?

Comment by: Philbee on 11th March 2015 at 14:16

As far as i can remember Chamberlaines music shop was next to the Griffin opposite St Johns church I think it is now a computer repair shop.

Chamberlains music/records shop was on Standishgate next to Rumbelows (Now Subway) but they did move to a shop next to The Griffin pub, by which time I think they had stopped selling records.

Thank you DerekB I bought a record named Lilly the pink there about 1969 I was in the other day before it closed as Leziz cafe but the owner did not know the shops history

Didn't Rumbelows have a record department in the basement late sixties - seventies. Or was it called Bulloughs then?

Gerry Lily the Pink by the Scaffold remember it very well. Hear it quite often on the radio especially local radio oldie shows
