Further to Allan Hughes's photo of Market Place - 'now and then' photo for comparison.
As stated by Alan Wright, the photographer of the original image must have been standing on the site of the present day Barclays Bank.I had to stand in the bank doorway to line the modern shot up.

Lovely pictures. I can see Craddocks shoe shop in the background. I got a Saturday job there in the Children' Department in the late 1960s to save up for a school trip to Switzerland. I got £1 per day and commission of one old penny for every pounds worth of shoes I sold!
