This is so sad. I remember Marks and Spencers' "St. Michael" label on their clothes so well This photo feels like the end of an era.

absolute shame , whats been done to wigan town ,galleries empty,GA rubbish,why couldn,t they have left it as it was with all the character of an old town

These two pictures have made me so sad. I'm not so sure that I desperately need to visit Wigan on my next (and probably last) visit "over the Pond"! I don't think I would recognise anywhere!

another council mistake will they never learn think the answer to that must be no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!the galleries has much more character than the grand arcade which is soleless come on wigan council get your act together

Any truth in the rumours that the galleries opened in 1991 by Princess Diana are now due to be demolished in part? Also hearing rumours that the new market hall will be a car park before too long.... It will soon cease to be Wigan at this rate and be worthy of being renamed - Erehwon Lancashire GM??!!
