The gable end clad with slates is on the corner of Howards Lane, Lizzie.

All of these buildings still exist though The Stag Pub just visible in the distance was rebuilt in the 1920s. The road is a lot busier nopw though!

Is the Abbey Lakes dance hall still in existance, or has it been confined to history?.Spent many an enjoyable Saturday evening there, dancing the night away.

Albert, Those were the days. I think it is an Indian Restaurant now.

Albert..how I loved Abbey Lakes..when I wasn't at the 'emp,I was there..very happy days.

Abbey Lakes dance hall is now a keep fit place. It's the pub that is now an indian restaurant.

Albert the dance hall closed about fifty years ago, and the building was a camping centre for many years. It's now a gym and fitness centre.
The Abbey Lakes pub ceased to trade as a pub a few years ago, and as Ann21 says, is now a fitness centre.

Thank you all, for your information, and comments.

Correction to my comment above - I meant to say the pub is now an Indian Restaurant.

Relating back to the Abbey Lakes dance hall, my sister-in- law spent many happy dancing hours there,so much so,I bought her a model of a Wigan Corporation bus, destination indicator, marked, "Abbey Lakes". The destination indicator on my model bus is, "Ince Bar".

Albert, I got one of those model Wigan Corporation buses, it says Abbey Lakes on the front, I would love to go for a ride on one from Abbey lakes again, scratchy seats and all!

Does anyone remember or have any pictures of the motor repair garage next door to the Abbey Lakes Hotel? It was owned and run by a chap called Jimmy Ind. it was a wooden shed in a dubious state of repair with petrol pumps in front, I seem to remember. It operated in the 1950's and 60's and I believe it was a popular place to get an MOT done. How long it was there I can't remember. My father and uncle used Jimmy's services for years.
