I think the prints may have been rejects from a newspaper photographer's output. Hope the photographer spots this and receives the credit due. The kids will be around 40 by now, I suppose, so it may give them a laugh.
Takes me back , Had some friends over to visit and could not think of somewere to go . Went to teh Pier and had a great day out , you always miss whats on your doorstep till its gone
Is the pupil to the right on the front row a dummy? --I suppose I should have said manikin, so as not to have been politically incorrect!
I think we visited 3 times in all. Such a fantastic place and a very educational day out, bringing history to life for kids of all ages! It was a sad day when they closed it down, considering the amount of money they spent to develop it. One visit was with my 2 daughters (I was living overseas at that point - we were in Wigan on holiday) plus some friends (from Wiltshire - totally alien to them). I was demonstrating some of the street games. One of the kids tried Hopscotch and ended up at A&E having not quite mastered how to turn and hop at the same time. Fortunately it wasn't a broken ankle, just badly sprained.
Did they close it down ,loved going their every time I went back
Rev.David; I took this picture as part of a feature about 'The Way We Were' Wigan Pier site for the Wigan Observer in 1986.
I can't remember which school are featured on this photograph but if I find out I will post the information.
This place was brilliant ! Some one must at least know the (actor) teacher..
