Is this at a bowling green??
I remember it well and remember the name, but I too have no idea how it got the name. I played in there on many occasion
What memories this brings back. It had gone from my memory until this picture appeared;thanks for reviving it.
Hi Ken R, No, this was in the park. The houses behind were opposite the entrance gates on Victoria Street.
we called it "thowd mons hut"
Born & Bred in Manor Street, it was always the "Old Man's Cabin" to us as kids.
I don't know Newtown at all, being born and bred in Ince, but I DO know childhood, and places like this ALWAYS got names like "Dead Man's Cabin", and were always "haunted", because that's what children WANTED them to be, especaially when tha nights began to draw in!
Great photo. We always knew it as Thowd Mons Cabin, anybody remember the "Conker tree" about thirty yards right of this picture?
It is truly amazing how a simple photograph can revive so many memories. It just goes to prove that you really don't know how special something is, until it's gone, and only when you can reflect back, do you appreciate the special beauty of that moment. Just wonderful!
i am sorry , but it was known as , the owd mons cabin .
I do remember playing on the putting green in front of the cabin,,,,you got your golfball and putter from there
