Talk about bringing back memories!! Just as I recall it from all those years ago. The car with a Wigan reg JP. It must have been a pre-war model. My uncle Joe and his partner bought new cars just after the war with regs JP 5555 and JP 5556, I think that they were Hillmans. In 1946 I was in my last year at the Grammar school, and we always had a look around town on our way home.

What I wouldn't give to have been born around this time. Doesn't the town look much nicer than it does nowadays? Lovely photograph Ron.

This picture appears on the front cover of, and inside,a book entitled Memories of Wigan and subtitled Nostalgic photographs of local places, people and events - 1939 to 1970. The earlier picture posted to this site entitled Lowes also appears in the same book.

Good photo Ron.
Derekb, does it really matter if it's from a book, a good percentage on WW are from publications anyway. Remember, many people can't afford books etc etc so it,s thanks to people like Ron for sharing them.

Colin, I couldn't agree more that the source of the photograph doesn't matter and my previous comment wasn't in any way meant as a criticism. I thought it might be of interest to anyone who might want to get hold of the book.

Apologies Derekb, no offence given or taken.

Where the bus is parked, would have been the underground toilets. I only referred to them recently on another website regarding a query by " Owd Fossil". Good mates of mine,in the Forties & fifties, their dad, Jimmy Williams, was the attendant, in these toilets, middle forties, to very early fifties. He always wore a peg leg. He was a kind, and generous man. Lived in Ainscow Street, Spring View.
