Great picture Dennis. Takes me back to my school-days at All Saint's, when I walked through that archway every day on my way to catch the bus home.
I walked through that archway every week day to take my youngest to Blue Coat School..and just to the right of the photo that is out of view is the old Blue coat School.
ya i remember the old court i got done there for flaning nails on railway lines at platt bridge 52 yrs ago i got fined 4 shillings never 4 got that
Does anyone remember the hairdressers nearby - can't think of the name of the woman who owned it, I think she had reddish hair!
In bygone times, did this building have an ecclesiatical connection? It does give that impession. A very impresive building. The actual name of the location,tends one's thoughts towards this.
As I remember it. The Labour Exchange was part of this complex.
I don't know too much about the building Albert, but just to the right of the gate, before you go through it, is the Parish Church if memory serves me right.
There was a men's hairdresser at the back of there at one time David, his name was Ted Spencer.
Cyril, I was having my haircut in Ted Spencer's barbers shop the day before I got marred. When a guy from Plessey's, where I worked, and whose daughter was getting married on the same day. Came in for his haircut. I could see him in the mirror as I was in the process of having my hair cut He said " Hi Ron I've got some bad news for you. We have just been called to a Meeting, We are all being made redundant" That was a good wedding present...
